Keeping bathrooms free from dirt, stains, mold, or mildew is not a simple task. Without regular maintenance, bathrooms can severely deteriorate in a matter of weeks. That was the case for a homeowner in Simsbury, CT. She had previously hired our services to renew the appearance of the natural stone shower in her master bathroom. This time, she requested the help of our grout sealing professionals in Simsbury to restore the fixtures in her guest bathroom floor.

Before and After Picture of a Grout Sealing Job in Simsbury, CT
The homeowner was about to host a few family members that were going to stay in town for a month. Since she wanted them to be comfortable in her home, she made all the necessary arrangements to get the guest room in good shape. Unfortunately, there was one problem she couldn't solve. The grout on the guest bathroom floor was severely stained. It had acquired a yellowish tone that gave the entire surface an unappealing appearance. No matter what cleaning products or methods she used, it seemed impossible for her to bring the grout back to a uniform white color.

The homeowner knew she needed professional help. After all, she had already dealt with impossible-to-clean surfaces a few months prior when she first contacted us. Knowing that she could trust our expertise, she called to schedule a free in-home consultation.

We visited the client's home on the scheduled day to examine the bathroom floor. We quickly understood why the customer felt that she needed to hire experts. Yellow stains covered the majority of the grout lines and made them appear unsightly. These yellowish stains are generally caused by a mixture of excess moisture, cleaner residue, and bacteria.

Concerned, we asked the client about her cleaning routine. The homeowner explained that she rarely cleaned the guest bathroom's surfaces. In fact, she had only tried cleaning the floor recently because her family planned to visit. During her cleaning session, she had used a combination of store-bought products and homemade recipes. After inspecting the products and recipes she had used on the floor, we learned many of them contained acidic substances and bleach. There's no doubt these chemicals damaged the grout and caused it to stain even further.

Removing these stains requires professional techniques and procedures. Luckily it wasn't anything we couldn't solve. We offered the customer a two-step procedure to restore the grout. We would thoroughly clean the grout and seal it with our proprietary sealant ColorSeal. The client was eager to show her family a pristine-looking bathroom, so she agreed to the service and scheduled an appointment for later in the week.

Grout is a porous material, so it's necessary to apply a sealant to the grout lines in order to preserve their longevity and appearance. If the customer's fixtures aren't sealed, grime and liquid will continue to permeate their surface, causing them to stain.

We returned to the client's home a few days later to restore the grout on the bathroom floor. We began by soaking the floor with Sir Grout's Natural Hard Surface Cleaner. Not only did we use this cleaner because it's safe for tile and grout, it'll also help inhibit the growth of bacteria, fungi, mold and microorganisms. After we let the cleaner sit for a few minutes, we used a high-speed scrubber to clean the entire surface. We also used a steam cleaner to clean the areas where the grime proved difficult to remove.

Once we finished cleaning the floor, we checked the fixtures to ensure they weren't chipped or cracked. Since none of the grout lines needed to be replaced, we began the sealing procedure. We used our flagship sealant ColorSeal to seal the grout. This is an acrylic-based sealant that shuts off the grout's pores, protecting it against water, stains, mold, and mildew. It'll also recolor the grout to any color the client chooses. The customer chose white to give the floor a hygienic appearance.

The transformation was amazing. Thanks to the service, there were no more signs of stains. The client assured us the results had surpassed her expectations. She knew her relatives would fall in love with the brand-new looking floor. She asked us if there was anything she could do to preserve the floor in its current state. We explained to her that the best way to keep the floor in good shape is cleaning it once a week using a dry mop and a pH-neutral product like our proprietary cleaner. Unlike most store-bought products and homemade recipes, our cleaner doesn't contain acidic substances, bleach, or soap. The client thanked us for the advice and purchased our cleaner. She assured us she would now clean the floor on a weekly basis.
